Melafix is a really good medicine. Also there is Maracide.
Both are good for fungus but if your fish has a paracite than you should choose maracide.
Fungal Infection mainly consist of cotton like growth on the fish. I just try and increase the temperature of the fish tank water and let it be.
It sounds like “ich”. I recommend CopperSafe by Mardel. It will run you about $5.00.
it might be some kinda ick, they have meds for it $3.00-$5.00, but if you can get it out the tank take it to a good known place for pet fish, and they should be able to hook you up with the right stuff and ppl to help you out
Fungas typically forms large blotches of fuzz on the fish where as ich forms many small white dots. It could also have Hole in Head disease. All of these are parasite infections.
What kind of fish do you have. Most Ich treatments either use heavy metals or Malachite Green. Malachite Green is harmful to scaleless fish (Catfish, loaches and tetras) and in a large enough quantity will disrupt your tanks biological filtration causing your tank to recycle. It is also removed by chemical filtration so removing your carbon filter is recommended for best results. Coppersafe on the other hand is safe for all those fish however it is harmful to invertebrates. (Snails, shrimp) and can be harmful to plants too. Because coppersafe is a heavy metal it does not get removed by your chemical filter and will remain in your tank for at least 30 days with regular partial water changes. A third option is salt water. I know it sounds weird but you can dose the tank with freshwater salt from a company like API. There are directions on the side of the tank for how much to add but it is a good idea to purchase a small hydrometer to monitor the salinity level. Most freshwater fish can handle a low dose of sodium for a small extended time. You can also do a higher concentration dip in a separate bucket for the affected fish. Dont leave it in for more than 1 min. or you will kill it. All of these treatments are more effective with an elevated tank temp. because it speeds up the life cycle of ich forcing it to be vulnerable to the treatment. Ich has 4 stages to its life cycle and is only vulnerable in 2.
EDIT 1: Fungus treatments are not effective against ich. Ich is a parasite that bores through a fishs skin. Those white spots are where the parasite bored through and left a wound open to infection.
its ich. treat it NOW or your fish will die. go to the pet store, buy any ich medication, and treat your fish. put it another container temporarily, sanitize its old tank and eveerything in it completely. if there are otheer fish with the sick one, trerat them as well. ich is contagious.
Sounds like ick, but if you want to be sure go to this site and compare your fishes symptoms and the look of the the problem to the different illnesses. When you find out what it is just click on the illness and it will give you instructions on how to cure your fish. It really sounds like ick though, so check that out first on this site. Good luck, I had a little case of ick that I got from a bad batch of feeders that I got for my fish as a treat two months ago. It took me a week of treating to get rid of it, but it’s gone and they’re all doing great now. If you use a ick treatment with a natural dye in it like malachite green, make sure you remove any decorations that you don’t want to get colored by the dye.
