Yes you can..My son is a meat cutter and they have very stringent rules concerning cleanliness. I will get back to you when I talk to him and have him give you specifics.

If you are handling raw meat, be sure to wear gloves and never, ever, touch your eyes, nose or mouth or any open wounds anywhere on your body after handling meat and before washing your hands. When you remove your gloves, wash your hands immediately. The parasites, bacteria, viruses, etc… can be present in pretty much any raw meat and they can be transferred to any surface that touches the raw meat, including your hands, which can then transfer the contagion to your eyes, etc…

there are all kinds of parasites you cann pick up from raw meat.all you have to do is get it in your eye or get a cut on your finger ,and without the proper first aid,bam you’re infected.raw meat and blood carry all types of stuff that can kill you.take a course in blood bourne pathogens and food handling.

After cutting meat for 50 years I can tell you that I have never heard of such a thing. Cleanliness standards are strict in most meat departments. We used sanitizers and degreasers in cleanups and we were subject to regular inspections by the county board of health. Personal hygiene is important in any environment and I would question that more than I would question contact with fresh meat.

I am guessing that the doctor’s guess in not accurate.
