It’s a parallel to predator-prey evolution.
Organisms will generally evolve to tolerate or become resistant to parasitic infection and the parasite will evolve to work around the adaptations, in the same way as a prey animal will evolve to outsmart of outperform its predator and the predator will improve to catch the prey.

This would work perfectly as part of natural selection.
Depending on the parasitic nature of the host and parasite each will influence the evolution of the other.
If you require examples please let me know.
Good luck

It’s been observed numerous times.

Not at all. It can influence its life span only.
